Did your pet ever get lost? Have you ever found someone's lost pet?

Thankfully no. Have found a couple mainly from either our neighborhood or nearby ones.

We found a little dog on the side street and took her home until the owner could come get her later that day. She could easily have wandered a short block to the main road and that might not be good. She had escaped from their yard and they were unaware.

My dog is closely guarded and in a harness when we take her out. She also has an extra strap from the collar, wound in the harness then back through the end of the leash (past the clip part), so that if the leash disconnects or breaks at the clip end, she will still be on the leash. This proved good once when she got spooked by a giant rabbit (person inside at flower shop) and lurched back so hard she slipped her harness and all that was left was the collar and that extra strap.

Our cat was one that a friend found. She took it in to keep it safe but couldn't keep it long term so now we have it.

I found a tortoise one time in my backyard. I decided to keep it, created a whole enclosure for it in my backyard and was enjoying my new found pet for a couple weeks. One day someone from the neighborhood knocked on my door and said that my neighbor told them I had their tortoise. Apparently there was "Lost tortoise" flyers posted around the neighborhood (that I didn't see). The tortoise owner was pretty upset and acted like I purposely ignored the flyers and tried to steal their tortoise, which wasn't the case. I explained that I wasn't aware that someone was looking for it, gave them back the tortoise and all the supplies I had bought for it. In the end she thanked me for taking care of her lost pet and there was no hard feelings.

How big was it? I have friends who have owned turtles and tortoises. I like watching videos of them playing.

It wasn't too big, it somehow ended up in my backyard and I didn't really have any large spots for it to crawl under the fence boards.

I had a beagle wander into my backyard. The dog had ID tags with the owners phone number and address. I called and the owner came and picked up her up.

In the country town I live in, it seems pets are getting lost all the time. Like EVERY day someone posts on the Facebook group! I suppose it's because not many people have fences???

My present pet found me. She belonged to no-one, even though the owners thought otherwise. She doesn't belong to me now, but she chooses to stay for food and companionship. I prefer this kind of pet.

In my youth my family moved and my cats with them. Perhaps there is a secret I don't know to keeping them, but one became disoriented and lost in their new surroundings.

I don't get people letting pets outside if there's no way to contain them. Especially when the pet is an aggressive dog. A couple of times I've drawn my knife on dogs when I've been out walking, usually as a precaution but one particular time I really thought I was going to end up having to use it against an aggressive dog.

I always hated walking my dog when other people let their pets run wild. My dog would get so mad that they weren't on a leash, so SHE was the aggressive one toward them.

Animals, pets, don't get lost.

They can always find their way back to where they came from. The animal itself is not lost. The owner just doesn't know where they are at.

They could have gotten run over on a road. Or, they could have gotten bitten by a snake and died. Or they could have gotten chased down by cyotes and killed. Or, a homeowner may have killed them not wanting stray dogs running through their area.

So, if they don't come back, then they are gone. Time to get another.
