When you see dogs on the loose near your house or when out and about, what do you do?

We saw a couple of dogs on the run and we tried to get them in our car to protect them, but they wouldn't come near us. When they went into the wooded area, we stopped and I posted on the local Facebook group for my town to let people know. It took 2 hours before someone responded and I guess they're still missing.

If they are aggressive they'll probably get a shot of pepper spray.

If they aren't aggressive I'll leave them alone. I don't care for dogs, and certainly wouldn't put an unknown dog in my car or my house.

Update on the dogs...I had posted immediately on Facebook and checked later and the owner's niece replied saying they got out and were still looking for them. Other people had them in their backyard, so they were finally able to be caught by the owners and taken home.

It's good to post on Facebook groups for your local area and there are sometimes Lost and Found Pet groups too where people are willing to go help locate lost pets.

There is one lady on the corner near us who will set out a pet trap if she knows the animal was last seen in her vicinity.

it's a good idea to microchip animals so that it makes it easier for owners to get their pets identified. I don't have a dog, but it seems it is pretty easy for them to dig their way out sometimes or get out of their yard
I did find a dog in my front yard a few years ago and he had a tag, so I called the phone number on the tag and the owner came and got him. The dog sat with me on my porch until the owner arrived. he was a huge dog, but friendly, except he didn't like my cats

When my next door neighbor's dog gets out, I send him a text. Otherwise, for larger dogs, I will post on my neighborhood FB group a photos. For the smaller ones that come up to me. I will take them to my backyard and then post. So far, I have not had to take the dog to see if chipped as they have all been picked up.

I agree with the previous poster, get your pets microchipped.

I bet the dog was happy and felt safe with you for the short while you had him there!

It sounds like you have a lot of loose dogs in your area from time to time?

Microchips can move around in the body from what a vet tech told me. She volunteers to scan for chips whenever anyone finds a pet.
