A woman who was living inside a sign on the roof of a Michigan grocery store told police it was an “old safe spot” known to her family, though she didn't explain why she chose to stay there for a year, according to video of the encounter.

I applaud her ingenuity. Yes, she wrongly trespassed, but her intent was to have a safe, dry place for her homeless self to exist unharmed. Homeless encampments are some of the most dangerous places for women, & some of the most crime-ridden places one can find themselves in, short of prison. If society & benevolent homeless service aid organizations can create safer, more reliable shelters, then perhaps they should leave her to her own actions. Just saying. Not endorsing lawlessness, but also not advocating draconian crackdown measures!
