Kate Middleton is undergoing preventative chemotherapy after doctors discovered cancer during her abdominal surgery in January.

Following months of speculation about her health, the world heard directly from the Princess of Wales on Friday about her condition in an emotional video. Middleton began by thanking everyone for their messages of support, and said that "it has been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family."

I feel sad for her, and especially her kids. She's going to have a hard battle and I pray things go well for her.

Not something that's easy to deal with and even more so when you're in the public eye the way she is.

It's a curious balancing act in a situation like hers, where she's a very public figure (and as one who married into the family she chose to be there, unlike William who was born into it) and yet that doesn't automatically mean every single thing about her life has to be public.

I hope this will lay a lot of the conspiracy theories to rest and she can have the space she needs to recover. I thought she did a good job giving enough information to explain why she's been more absent than expected, to confirm she's still out there and still alive and kicking, and also to say that now she wants some space.

I wouldn't call it preventative as much as more of insurance. I had a female cancer 20 years ago and while they were sure they got it all, I was offered chemo to be sure it was gone. I suspect that for Kate it is something similar.

I pray for her and her family. It was good of them to think of their decisions and family before making this public. Though they probably made it public to stop all of the conspiracies going around.
