Juno Is Arriving At Jupiter On July 4
Some noteworthy things:
I think the findings from this mission will be quite interesting...I look forward with great anticipation for the data to begin coming in.
Some noteworthy things:
- The space probe Juno has reached a speed of about 165,000 mph, one of the highest speeds ever achieved by a man-made object.
- Most of the instruments deal with Jupiter’s particles and magnetic field, which is 20,000 times more powerful than Earth’s.
- Juno’s main goals include discovering what the inside of Jupiter is like, as part of understanding how the planets formed. One specific goal is to discover whether Jupiter has a rocky or ice core of elements heavier than helium.
- Its 14-day elliptical orbit will be timed so that each time it comes close it passes a few degrees in longitude around the planet, so that by the time it completes three dozen orbits after about a year, it will have mapped the planet at high accuracy completely.
