John 8:56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.
In Genesis 12:1-3 Abraham was commanded to go unto a land God would show unto him and would be made a great nation which would be a blessing.
Hebrews 11:8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.
11:9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:
11:10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
In Hebrews 11:8-10 above, Abraham was looking for a city built by God.
Hebrews 11:13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
11:14 For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country.
11:15 And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.
11:16 But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.
In the verses above, the author of Hebrews is saying that by faith Abraham believed the promise and word of God and saw them afar off as being fulfilled.
God is preparing a heavenly city that will come down from heaven to fulfill the prophetic promises given to the fathers of Israel (Revelation 21:2).
Jesus came to confirm the promises made unto the fathers (Romans 15:8) and to establish the Davidic kingdom to Israel. In Mark 1:14-15 Jesus preached the gospel of the kingdom of God and said the time is fulfilled; this was the day Abraham was looking for. This was the day promised when Israel would be a holy nation and be a blessing to the Gentiles in the kingdom.
