Mark 15:26 And the inscription of His accusation was written above: THE KING OF THE JEWS.
Luke 23:38 And an inscription also was written over Him in letters of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
Matthew 27:37 And they put up over His head the accusation written against Him: THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
John 19:19 Now Pilate wrote a title and put it on the cross. And the writing was: JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS.
What precisely was the nature of accusations levelled against Jesus by the enemies of Christ?
Perhaps, this modern word is more befitting the modern world to describe the 1st century AD accusations directed against Jesus:-
Self entitlement
"An exaggerated sense of one's importance that shows itself in the making of excessive or unjustified claims".
Some other self-entitled synonyms are as follows: Lordliness, masterfulness, ostentation, peremptoriness, pompousness, pretence, pretension, pretentiousness, smugness, superciliousness, superiority, and aloofness There can be reasons behind a self-entitled personality, but one thing clear; it is not a good thing.
Such accusations of "self entitlement" is perfectly valid in the absence of divine agency, which made Jesus different from all others who also claimed to be sons of Abraham and David.
Consequently, the charge of self entitlement is in denial of Jesus's divine nature as the Son of God (Colossians 2:9 & John 1vv1-3 & 14v7).
Obviously, such denial is a sin for the would be Christians who've claimed to be followers of Jesus.
Ultimately, they themselves are in the wrong for such denial of divine agency, but Jesus had every right to call himself King, by definition.
For only one's denial of divine agency could lead to such false accusations about the Son of God.
On the contrary, Jesus had every reason to feel himself more important than his accusers, but there was nothing pretentious about such a viewpoint, assuming that we still believe in the agency of divine intervention:-
John 3:31 He who comes from above is above all, he who is of the earth is from the earth and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all.
Please discuss.
