Where does the belief of Christ being a Prophet and only a Prophet come in?

Nestorianism? Well.... any attempt to strip Jesus of divinity. Islam officially teaches this.... Occasionally Jews do.

Of course, He IS a Prophet in the biblical sense of a teacher..... but He is much, much, much MORE than that!

Doesn't Mormonism also teach that?

If your theology requires a future messenger to be greater than Christ then you can't have Christ being the only begotten son of God. Otherwise your "new and improved" teacher can't really trump that. If you demote Jesus to the status of a prophet, afford him some respect (perhaps by adding PBUH after his name) you can still give him some honor but also allow yourself the freedom to have a Prophet 2.0 come along later.

Of course if Jesus is the son of God then anyone else wanting to trump Jesus has some pretty high standards to live up to. If you regard Jesus as a prophet and then some other subsequent person to be Prophet 2.0 and therefore Bigger And Better, you need them to be pretty special because otherwise someone else can point at a later person still and claim they are Prophet 3.0 - Now With Added Prophecy and your preferred dude fades into the shadows.

It comes from people who have either no God, gods, or goddesses or from people who have a god, gods, or goddesses - that is to say it comes from people who worship something other than the Lord Jesus Christ, this includes Muslims and Jews.

Look no further than John 3:16. As it should explain it all. Plain and simple!

I must say that Islam regards Isa(Jesus) as not only a prophet, but the pure messenger of GOD, and though they consider Mohammed to have come after Jesus, they still regards Christ as the perfect messenger, who will return in the second coming.

Just wanted to clarify.

Also; why would one seek to trump Christ? That makes no sense to me. As if it is some contest between men, as opposed to right guidance for the sake of men by the Will, Grace, and mercy of GOD.

Faith in selfless Unity for Good.
