I have not read a book on the practice. Many years ago, when I enjoyed romance novels, I read FICTIONAL story about a girl who SUPPOSEDLY married the dashing Siddhartha Guatama only to be abandoned in a most heartbreaking fashion. So, I looked it up. From my understanding, it is atheistic. There is no deity in it.

Some Buddhist groups have a theology, some do not. Some Buddhist groups (the oldest) are agnostic on the question of the existence of God; others believe firmly in the existence of God. It all depends.

As I understand it, classical Buddhism is agnostic.... and thus there is no THEOlogy in it. In practice, I think most Buddhist import concepts of the divine into their lives - but this is not an aspect of Buddhism, just an additional aspect of many Buddhists.

Do you think it depends on the region of what a Buddhist believes (region of where he/she lives)?
