Some people say 'life was better in the good old days', but what is actually better now then it was in the good old days?

Life is easier in that we have microwave ovens, digital everything, safer appliances, etc... but it's the people who have changed.

"The good old days" were those in the Garden of Eden before the Fall.

Life is easier with digital everything but the deluge of useless emails, scams, data breaches etc makes me wonder if life has actually improved. You can barely do anything these days without signing up via email and downloading yet another app.

Major household appliances used to last more or less forever. We still have a fridge and washer/dryer that my wife remembers from her childhood. I'm sure they are inefficient relative to modern versions but they just keep on working. I'm impressed when a newer appliance lasts as long as 10 years before failing, with all the environmental implications of yet another thing going to landfill not to mention the financial costs of having to keep replacing stuff.
