People have two brains connected by a thick nerve-cell cable which enables each brain to talk to the other. A little bit like two computers talking to each other.

But I want to speculate and since this is the speculative theology forum this looks like the right place to do it.

What if the imaginary friend (or friends) you had as a child was (were) the 'other' half of your brain? What if angels and God are part of the same thing?

I do not think it is an especially convincing theory, but it is an interesting speculation that may explain some aspects of personal-religion especially the kind of personal religion where people are convinced that they regularly hear God or angels talking to them.

I take it then that your personal experience does not include hearing God speak to you?

That's right. Not a word from above in simple audible speech. No angelic visitations either. But I do have some cool dreams :)

Scientists like to use the brain to try to prove God doesn't exist as well.

Yeah amazing how man tries to put olimits on what God can and does do and tries to explain it all. I am sure that God gets some good laughs out of it

In my experience, if you want to hear someone speaking you generally have to stop speaking long enough to hear what is being said and people who say they cannot hear God speak have a habit of filling the quiet space that God uses to speak to them.

But you may be the exception :)

I am an exception. I spend a lot of each day in silence.

:) actually I did not say anything about silence, I know a number of people who follow the discipline of silence in their days, yet they do not hear either, because the way they view there lives the silence is more important than hearing anything and they are offended if anything should intrude - even God!

And in my experience God will not force his voice upon you if you treasure silence as these folks do.

It is hard to satisfy you. You'd written "if you want to hear someone speaking you generally have to stop speaking long enough to hear what is being said" and I replied as I did about spending some of every day in silence. Surely that answered your remark? Now you remark about "actually I did not say anything about silence, I know a number of people who follow the discipline of silence in their days, yet they do not hear either". I am silent in parts of most days precisely to listen for God who I "hear" with my eyes in the holy scriptures and prayers of the saints.

Apparently the half of the brain that has the speech centres.

Pedrito: Pedrito still does not fully understand.

Would that half be you talking to it, or it talking back to you?

Perhaps re-viewing the video clip will answer your question.

MoreCoffee, please do not try to satisfy me, I actually do not really care how or if you hear from God, but He cares. And He cares enough to ensure that each of us hears in a way that will make us understand it is Him that is speaking, in whatever manner.

The issue for me here, is that we shouldnot try to disuade people from believing that God speaks and that we can hear Him, I felt that your response to this issue was belittling people that profess to actually hearing an audible voice or perhaps just voices in their heads, and also seemed rather dismissive in its tone.

I am glad that you find Him speaking to you from the words of scripture, I too have that experience and it is very helpful, especially when I have had an experience of hearing Him say something I am not sure of, from other sources, then it is helpful to know that there is scripture that backs up what I have heard and been struggling to understand.

God does not change, He spoke before and He still speaks if we only listen. He is not a respector of persons so if one hears then all can. There is absolutely nothing that God has done that He still isnt doing today, all the gifts are active and present
