If you were given a quarter for every time you did something, what would you choose?

Every time I blink my eyes. :D

But this could be a curse. I can imagine having to hire a company to roll the quarters and turn them in to the bank lest I am buried in them.

How about a 1 oz gold bullion coin instead? Then I will take one every time I sneeze.

Breathe or blink probably. That would seem like a good way to get rich.

That said I wouldn't say no to a quarter every time my heart beats when I'm out running.

That phrase is usually associated with something negative. Like, "I wish I had a nickel for every time I did that".

In other words, something you had to do as a result of something that occurred. Something the result of a mistake on your part.
