When I was in my early teens there was a doodad you could buy that was designed to make bars of soap out of scraps of soap. You'd keep all the small scraps and put them in a container and then, when the container was full, you dumped all the scraps of soap into a press. The press would squeeze out all the water and you'd end up with a single bar of soap made up of all the old scraps.
A great idea in theory but it took so many scraps of soap to make a bar that it was all but useless. Much easier to just press the scrap onto a new bar and be done with it.
