No, I hate having the thought of dirty shoes on my clean floors/carpet.

I never really paid attention until we had a couple of bad winters in a row here, and from rain. I got tired of cleaning/drying up wet and muddy spots on the tile by the door, so now I take them off every time. It's one of those things that I never thought I'd be so conscientious about

My parents home had carpeting everywhere (but in the kitchen and baths). The carpet cleaning folks (probably before I was born) informed my parents that one of the worst contributers to dirty and stained carpet is feet - even if those feet are very clean. Feet have a LOT of sweat and oil on them - and this is among the worse things there is for carpeting, FAR worse that the dirt one might bring in on shoes. SO, we all wore socks or slippers - to protect the carpet from feet oils. https://carpetcleanermachinesreview...earing-shoes-or-going-barefoot-on-carpet.html

Although our home has wood floors (and only some rugs), I still wear at least my socks. I don't want to gum up the floors with feet oil. My beloved has slippers she wears. But that's just me.

The climate here is dry most of the year and wet only some days in winter. Shoes are not even really necessary outside - sandals, and even lighter footwear is common. But I almost always take my footwear off as soon as I enter the entry hall and leave them there so that when I go out I can slip them back on before stepping outside. The only times I wear them inside is when it is very cold or when I have them on because I am just about to step out and I remember that I need something from another room before going out.
