I worked briefly at a print shop and the owner was an awful guy. I was only there 2 weeks before I got a better job doing what I was trained to do (design).

Bit of a toss up.

As a younger man, I worked 3 jobs I disliked intensely. The reason I worked them were two-fold. 1) I needed an income/job experience and 2) I needed an income to get by while I pursued my passion - music/art.

1) McDonalds. Need I say more? One of my first corporate jobs. It was for $$ and job experience, that's it. I think I worked there for perhaps a year or so, then quit....although for many years I'd still go there for fast food. I'm a Vegan now and I don't even go there for fries. I'd rather support a local family owned business like a fish and chip shop, even for just fries. It's been years since I've gone there for anything.

2) A factory job that basically involved the most mind numbing activity a human can do. My job was to feed rags through a machine. I remember distinctly the manager being a slave driver that called for faster action. Next to this was another factory job bending over breaking my back sanding wood for a cabinet company.

3) A gardening job for public places (hospitals and the like). The work here involved mostly mowing and weeding. The work itself I didn't mind too much, but the boss made the job a living hell. I might have lasted at the job a while but for him. He assumed that all of us workers absolutely hated the work and constantly spoke of (the work) in that light. It was hard to hold a positive attitude while constantly enduring his comments about his assumption of our attitude.

Telephone solicitor. The bosses there (and from what I’d heard, other places as well) tried to brainwash us into thinking that if we gave our pitches correctly and used the right rebuttals when the person we called were unreceptive we could convince them that they needed our product. In reality very, very few people were that dumb.

Oh yeah, you definitely need the naive to give in to those calls.

I worked for a company for three weeks, supposedly as a sales advisor but it turned out to be cold-calling trying to sell an expensive security product during a recession, with precisely none of the training they promised to give me. Then they cut me loose for not being able to sell the products they never bothered to train me to sell.
