Summer is the worst season. Awful heat making it difficult to breathe, occasional thunderstorms, insects everywhere. It's like someone gathered a bunch of annoying things and made them happen at once. If I could move to a country where it's cold, without rain, all year long, I would. Not the Poles though. That's too extreme.

Only thing worse than summer is winter, though in some ways winter is not so bad if a mild one, same for summer, if a mild one. This week has been mild, lower temps even down to low 50s at night and upper 70s mid 80s day, nice. Unusual for here. We only had one week of very humid and it was horrible. The rest of this summer has been pretty decent and not a lot of insects. I only heard or saw less than a dozen mosquitoes this year. Very few houseflies either. No wasps and their usual trying to nest in crevasses around the outside of the house.

Fall is favorite but tainted by impending winter.

Summers in coastal California are beautiful....

But here, there are really two seasons. We call them Day and Night. One is sunny and warm, the other dark and cooler. Both are nice.

My English professor in college was asked what his favorite season of the year was and he replied "Air conditioning".

I stay indoors for the most part during the summer, but don't like the extremes of winter either

Nope. Do you?

Oh definitely! I would never live in a home again without air conditioning. There are portable style ones where you put a hose out a window or through a wall to the outside for drainage. If I had a summer cottage with no air conditioning, I'd look into something like that.

A big plus of air conditioning is it helps dehumidify the house so you don't get mildew. I would still also have a dehumidifier in the basement too.

Definitely get one!! We run ours all year long because I hang up a lot of the laundry in the basement and it helps to dry out the clothes.

Your electric bill must be heavily impacted...

Not really. We're only two people and I'm the one home most days, so I don't use a lot of electricity unnecessarily. I don't blow dry my hair, use the microwave too often or the toaster. My husband has a beer fridge and that hasn't raised the electricity usage much either.
