I think true to some degree. Similar to being in an automobile. Many people will be far more aggressive in a car then if they were face to face.

I think the key thing about social media is it amplifies the sense that anybody else really cares what I have to say.

I think care needs to be used with specific terms like that. I'm not sure it's safe to say that getting an inflated sense that strangers care about my opinions, in a world where so many people are posting their opinions, is diagnosable as NPD.

The key here is "average user". To what do we compare the average? By virtue of posting on CH and elsewhere we're part of a group taking advantage of social media. Averages are also skewed by the extremes who tend to get the attention (e.g. those who have gone "overboard", shall we say). And the APA is poised to make such folks diagnosable with a mental illness, thereby ensuring that "unhealthy ego" will be regarded as 'fill-in-the-blank' phobic to mention
