OneNewsNow: How Socalism Violates All Ten Commandments
Tuesday, July 2, 2019 | Robert Knight - Guest Columnist
--With a couple dozen Democratic presidential hopefuls vying to see who's pinker, perhaps it's time to contrast socialism with something more helpful and permanent: The Ten Commandments. Socialism teaches that wealth should be held in common ownership, controlled by the state. Hence, the Democrats' constant push to have government confiscate ever more income and power.

By contrast, the Bible teaches that God owns all things and that we're merely stewards of His creation. When we look at each of the Ten Commandments, we see that they're directly at odds with socialism.

You shall have no other gods before Me: Socialism and its offshoots – communism, fascism, democratic socialism and National Socialism (Nazism) – enshrine the state above all other powers. There is no room for God, which is why socialists are in a permanent war with the church and are bent on creating a faith-free society.

You shall make no idols: Idols are anything that takes the place of God in the hierarchy of values. Under socialism, sheer power over one's fellow man is an idol. Another is building utopias – the unicorns of government because such perfect societies do not exist.

You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain: When socialists take over a culture, it becomes depraved and perverse. To enforce their new immoral order, socialists openly blaspheme God and particularly Jesus Christ. Hollywood, which is famously leftist, has taken this road since Christian review boards abandoned their role in the 1960s, opening up films to any and all ways to shock audiences.

Keep the Sabbath day holy: Sundays are no different from any other day in socialist societies. In fact, people going to church on a Sunday are identified and often persecuted in places like communist China, where atheism is the official state religion. Even in our market-based society, materialism – a necessary precept of socialism – has pushed respect for the Sabbath to the margins.

Honor your father and your mother: Socialism has been at war with marriage and family since the French Revolution in 1789. Unlike America's revolutionaries of 1776, the Jacobins sought to wipe out Christianity and establish an all-encompassing government that supplanted the family. Frederich Engels, co-author with Karl Marx of The Communist Manifesto, later wrote about the need to do away with marital fidelity and to assign children to communal rearing. He, Marx and other socialists correctly identified the family as a competing source of authority and a bulwark of the church. Both stand in the way of collectivist regimes.

You shall not murder: Many people misread this commandment as a broader order not to kill for any reason, which denies the moral difference between taking innocent human life and executing murderers. Socialists have long promoted abortion – the direct taking of an innocent human life – as a way to "liberate" women and men from parental responsibilities.

You shall not commit adultery: In the 1960s, Americans became familiar with the term "free love," but socialists have been promoting it heavily since the early 1800s. Sex outside marriage, prostitution, pornography and abortion all militate against marriage fidelity. Socialists deploy euphemisms like "choice" and "sex work" to cover the retreat from biblical morality.

You shall not steal: Socialism is grand theft. It uses the state to take earnings from productive people and redistribute it to create dependency and thus political power for those handing it out. Slavery is 100 percent taxation – when someone else controls the fruits of one's labor. Socialist countries first control and then seize private property. Marx summed up The Communist Manifesto in one sentence: "Abolition of private property."

You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor: This is not just about telling lies in a witness situation but also about using lies to advance one's wellbeing. Socialism is built on a mountain of lies about human nature, which is why it eventually must resort to violence. Marx wrote that "the ends justify the means," which means you can do or say anything as long as it advances the revolution. Example: "You can keep your health plan if you like your health plan."

You shall not covet: Socialism's main engine is envy, stoking resentment against others who have more, even to the point of using violence to get it. In Genesis, Cain killed Abel out of envy for Abel's achieving God's favor. Envy was also on display when Satan promised Adam and Eve that if they defied God, then "ye shall be as gods." Coveting divinity got Satan kicked out of heaven, and it's what he and his minions continue to peddle in a variety of forms including pride, envy and socialism. Of Satan, Jesus said, "When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies."

God originated life, natural marriage and love, and gave us the Ten Commandments. It shouldn't be a mystery as to where the deceptive cake of socialism was baked.

Sundays are nice for worship but there are a lot of churches that also might have Saturdays or even Wednesday evenings for worship. So this part of the list doesn't really do much to convince me. I know a lot of people who are cops and nurses and they work on Sundays and are still very much Christians.

Very true, although there's at least some merit in many of the points in the OP this sort of thing just weakens the overall case.

In a truly free market economy people who prefer not to work on their Sabbath risk getting pushed out of their jobs if their employer wants them to work. I remember a wise man once said that Sabbath was made for man, not the other way around.

This is a load of pure male bovine excrement. I am sorry to be so blunt but the I regard the truth highly. It is insulting to a legitimate political philosophy (which is exactly what was intended) but beyond that it betrays a profound lack of understanding of Christianity itself.
Socialism is terrible and weakens the nations, although I also don't agree with many of the points I do agree that the idea of Socialism is is not Christian friendly and a very atheistic virtue that replaces God with Government... this philosophy is dangerous and does not work.

It might be useful if you were to flesh out your argument here. Actually, scratch that, it might be useful if you actually presented an argument at all. Simply saying "that's **", even if you do couch it in slightly more euphemistic terms, doesn't make a useful counterargument.

I also believe lack of understanding of socialism. I'm not a socialist, but I do fight against social injustice and elitism, and try to level the playing field for those who are in lower classes so they at least have a fighting chance. But I am not sure any political structure is in violations of the ten commandments. We live in a secular world, and we can expect our governments to be secular. That doesn't mean they deliberately go about violating commandments; it simply means that each political structure is attempting to live out the values reflected in society (or the government itself, such as anti-religious societies or where they try to force religious law, for example).

Are you actually going to provide a useful counterargument? If you disagree, how about explaining why you disagree. Do you disagree because you think socialism is a bad thing but not as bad as is being suggested, or do you disagree because you think socialism is a good thing?

Modern socialism basically took the way the first Christians were living and twisted it by removing God from the equation. The first Christians did hold wealth in common ownership and had several appointed leaders take care of the administrative issues, as we can read in Acts. The point, as far as I understand, was to have all people serve one another according to each person's abilities, and live in peace while waiting for the Messiah to return.

Of course there's a huge difference between sharing voluntarily and being forced to share under government duress. It's interesting to see the parable of the Good Samaritan where the good guy didn't campaign for more government spending on crime victims, he didn't shrug and figure someone else would deal with it, he didn't point out that someone else was "rich" and they should "pay their fair share" of the cost of helping the man, he just got on and did what was needed. Nowhere in Scripture are we told to vote to compel someone else to do the things Jesus told us to do, he told us to get on and do it. If we're not doing it because we've figured someone else should be doing more we're the ones who are not obedient to the call. As Peter said to Ananias and Sapphira, the land they sold was theirs, and once it was sold the money was theirs to do with as they pleased. Even then the problem wasn't that they kept some of the money back for themselves, the problem was that they lied about it.

Sometimes it seems like what we might give is pitiful compared to what "the rich" could give, but let's not forget we're dealing with the God who fed 5000 people with little more than one man's lunch.

I know a lot of people who are cops and nurses and they work on Sundays and are still very much Christians.

I am one of those nurses. When I was in positions where I had to take my turn working on Sundays., it wasn’t because I despised being in worship. I worked because God called me to this profession and I was doing His will by taking care of His children in need of care.

Now, in case you didn’t know this, the underground church is alive and well in China. It is important to study the Bible and remember His Word should we be faced with not having access to worship or His Word. By doing this, we can keep ourselves safe in his word as no one can take away from us what is our hearts.

With socialism we are either all in for God or all in against God.
We know from scripture that not all are for God.
The Muslim world would tell us that sharia law should be imposed in all countries save those who pay the jizya tax, which not only sounds like socialism but of a beast system bent on destroying Christianity, good luck converting Islam to the socialism that atheist dream of, it will not end the belief of "godly" power over "infidels".
Christians would rather die out than impose socialist democracy over the world or even locally.
There will be no manmade utopia it's impossible.

The OP nailed it in the head. And really that to have socialism in our country. Would be very much a panic mode. It is scarier as it sounds. Other countries that have that, really you have to feel bad and sorry for them.

Please do not feel sorry for Canada --- or Norway or Denmark or Sweden or New Zealand or any of the other nations who have adopted socialist policies. The USA has already adopted some of those policies --- just look at the subsidies paid to oil and other industries. It would seem that the USA has decided that the rich and powerful should be the beneficiaries rather than those who actually need it.

Well, The Ten Commandments were never "set in stone". In other words, love comes before the law. However, I don't think this directly relates here.

Anyway, socialism is a understandable reaction - to the fact - churches have often failed mankind. In other words, quoting Ted Nugent - in one of his books. sort of - "Where is the church helping the downtrodden? No, they're busy making the church more beautiful!".

O.K., who couldn't possibly argue that the church hasn't lifted a finger in places like Latin America? Did the church ever want the peasants - to be anything more than peasants - or at least, people somewhat out of poverty?
