Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
Satan was taking away from the word of God by omitting that God said not to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
Genesis 3:3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
Eve added to the word of God; God said in
Genesis 2:17 that they could not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, he did not say it could not be touched.
Genesis 3:6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
Every other tree in the garden was likewise good for food and pleasant to the eyes, according to
Genesis 2:9.
Genesis 2:9 also says there was the tree of life, which they could have chosen to eat from, but desired the prohibited tree of knowledge of good and evil instead.
Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
This is the first of the gospel of God; the salvation which God chose to be through the Lord Jesus Christ (
Hebrews 2:14-15 Romans 1:1).
Genesis 3:21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.
Adam and Eve covered themselves in
Genesis 3:7, but it was God who clothed them, just as we are clothed with his righteousness (
Isaiah 61:10 Romans 3:22 2 Corinthians 5:21).
Death entered here, as an animal was slain to cover Adam and Eve.
