Is
Genesis 1:28 a blessing or command? Does this verse, especially the first part ("Be fruitful and increase in number"), apply to Christians today?
I believe it is both a blessing and command.
It was given prior to the fall of the human race while they were still sinless and perfect before God. In other words they were to pro-create in their sinless condition. Which lends itself to another question, for another thread.
You ask, does it apply to Christians today? I would say of course. It was given to Adam and Eve who were the beginning of the human race. So it extends to all of the human race.
If there be some that disagree because Adam and Eve were not yet fallen, and we who are Christian are fallen, I would point them to Noah and his sons after the flood. The same blessing/command was given them also, though they be fallen. (Gen. 9:1)
