A total of 7.2% of U.S. adults identify as LGBTQ, and younger generations – particularly those 25 and under – are driving the numbers, according to a poll released Wednesday.

For Generation Z – those born from 1997 to 2004 – 19.7% identified as LGBTQ in the poll, which was based on aggregated data of 10,000 people.

Among Millennials – those born from 1981 to 1996 – 11.2% identified as LGBTQ.

By comparison, 3.3% of Generation X identified as LGBTQ in 2022; for baby boomers, 2.7%.

Cathy Renna, communications director for the National LGBTQ Task Force, says the poll results reflect reality as LGBTQ young people continue to blaze trails.

So the generation most consumed with social media is following a societal trend that has been promoted in large part by said social media?

As a former substitute teacher, I have to say that the pressure to be gay/bi/inclusive or whatever, is all over their lives. They aren't "normal" if they try to resist it and we know how kids all want to fit in and be a part of the in crowd.

It seems the whole concept of #MeToo has gotten way out of hand. Who'd have thought it?

Sometimes I wonder how far you could push the limits of ignoring reality because you identify as something else. I wonder if I could earn a healthy living but identify as a poor man and claim government assistance. I could identify as a 68-year-old and claim my pension, while alternating with identifying as a 5-year-old and winning children's competitions.
