Thou shalt have no other gods before me
What is the main reason God emphasised "no other gods" if by default the israelites must have already accepted the one true God of Abraham? If any worshipped another god why would they even bother with these commandments?
Not to be confused with the 2nd commandment "Thou shalt not worship any graven image", not to adapt in gentile worship.
Even in polytheistic Egypt they still served Yahweh hence what made them so different, so shouldn't they serve him by default without the commandment instructing them to? (in theory, not arguing with Yahweh ) lest they follow another god in which they would just toss out all the commandments.
Or did they think they could throw in some extra/side gods along with their one monotheistic God, which goes against their monotheistic faith?
