My husband and I usually split it up pretty evenly whenever we go out out. Sometimes I'm the driver and sometimes he is and we're both okay with it. I think it just depends on factors of being tired, where the location is and who is more familiar with it and who wants to watch out for deer.
Going out with my wife she does most of the local driving and I do most of the longer distance driving. For local driving it doesn't make a lot of difference who drives, except that when we visit a brewery she's more into the food and I'm more into the beer so it makes sense for her to drive home. For longer distance driving I prefer to drive because it means we get there faster.
If I can sit in the passenger seat and zone out completely, go to sleep etc then I'm quite happy being the passenger.
