My older dog, mixed breed, medium sized, about 10 years old, had a seizure this morning, first time. She sleeps in the room with me, usually under or beside the bed. She woke me up whith an awful wining sound, so I turned on the light to see her lying there twitching and going potty (she never does that inside). Then she wouldn't get up or move more than her head.

I thought she had a stroke. I knew there was no recovering from a stroke, I've seen what even a mild one does to a dog. So I carried her to the car fully expecting this to be our last trip together. I was pretty tore up. It was unexpected. I had fully expected to have several more years with her, she is older, slower than she used to be, but otherwise completely healthy.

She rode well, she's always liked going for a ride. So I carried her into the vet and sat her on the table in the room and she half stood up on the table. That was better than she did earlier. So I put her on the floor and she stood up and started walking a little! Didn't act like anything was wrong except being disoriented and lethargic.

So doc came in and looked her over, asked me a few questions and told me he thinks she had a seizure, not a stroke. He said to take her home and watch her. Bring her back if it happens again and they will run tests to see if theres an infection or tumor. But he said this could just be a one time incident.

When I was paying at the counter, she was walking around sniffing the other people (I didn't bring a leash, I had carried her in and didn't expect to leave with her). One guy commented that she seemed like a good dog. I said "She sure is!" and walked out of the vet much happier than I walked in.

That was about eight hours ago and she seems to be back to her old self. She ate, took a nap, etc. Now she's just laying around on the couch like she likes to do.

OH! I'm so glad it has ended well for you and your dog. My dog had a seizure once too (she passed away a year ago) and it was scary.

I'm so glad she is doing okay! I would be frantic if it was my dog.
