Do you like using subtitles?

Do you like making use of subtitles whenever you are watching movies or TV series? Personally, I like making use of them because it helps me to focus on the movie or TV show and follow up on the conversation that is going on until I have completed the show or movie.

There are times when I need subtitles if I can't understand the accent. Derry Girls was one show that I struggled to understand...and they speak English LOL

I don't like using subtitles at all. And I don't use them. They only distract me from the movie. I don't think I ever had any problems understanding what the actors were saying.

I enjoy using subtitles even with English speaking movies I mostly understand. The reason is, there inevitably comes a part of the movie where I don't understand what is being said, and I prefer the subtitles to rewinding/playing it back several times to try to decipher it.

I'm learning to speak/understand German at the moment, and I've found that using German subtitles in English speaking films I already know and enjoy helps me to immerse myself better in the language and learn it quicker. Even using them passively, without looking everything up, certain words and phrases become more familiar with repetition.

I used to not enjoy subtitles when I was younger but now that I am a bit older, I seem to enjoy them a bit more. On every streaming service that I have, I automatically turn on the subtitles but more so because if I want to know a phrase or a word, I can pause it without having to memorize it or not knowing how to spell the word.
