There is a fear involved in becoming completely submissive to someone but a Godly wife has faith in God's word, and is virtuous. Out of faith and obedience to God’s word, she sees to it that she respects her husband. Her desire is to be a virtuous woman.
Virtuous definition: having or showing high ethical standards.
Proverbs 12:4 - A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.
Proverbs 31:10 - Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.
When a Godly wife submits to her husband, she is doing so not because of anything her husband did or said to deserve it, because she knows he is not perfect. She does so because she is acknowledging and adhering to a higher standard of ethics found in the word of God. A higher standard that calls for her to willingly and joyfully take the role of a helper to her husband, in a quiet and supportive manner.
Today’s popular culture encourages wives to be contentious towards their husbands. The media glorifies feminists and women with abrasive attitudes. Husband-bashing and male emasculation has become the household norm. But the Bible challenges women to be virtuous and brave, and to stand against these unbiblical beliefs, even in the face of opposition.
1 Peter 3:6 - For this is how the holy women of the past adorned themselves. They put their hope in God and were submissive to their husbands, 6just as Sarah obeyed Abraham and called him lord. And you are her children if you do what is right and refuse to give way to fear.
