Do you buy refurbished things?

I was looking at Amazon's deals today and was surprised at how many items listed were refurbished.

Do you buy refurbished things? Do you buy them to give as a gift?

I haven't bought refurbished because m thinking is why buy something that someone else had and it didn't work even though it might have been re-examined and corrected, it's still not "new". I doubt I'll ever give a refurbished item as a gift. I wouldn't want someone to have more issues with it.

I don't trust it and it rarely comes with the same warranty. Often times it isn't even that much cheaper anyway so I normally just buy new or if it's a book and not something I am too fussed about, I'll buy second-hand where I can.

A lot would depend on what it was and what warranty it came with (and what kind of discount it came with).

If something was only a few bucks cheaper and came with a massively limited warranty I don't see many people would bother with it. Most of the time when I see a refurbished item it comes with a respectable discount and a full manufacturer's warranty. After all, if they go to the trouble of refurbishing it they want someone to feel confident enough to buy it.

Nah, I couldn't see myself buying someone else's stuff that didn't work the first time. I want brand new for electronic equipment and I know people who have gotten very good deals on items that were refurbished with no complaints but I can't see myself doing it. I would be the one where it just didn't work out in the end, you know?
