I absolutely love my dishwasher! I hate standing by the sink and handwashing things, but there are things that can't go in the dishwasher.

I don't mind washing dishes by hand. We have a dishwasher but seldom use it.

My opinion is no, they are not worth it.
It's not hard to wash dishes. It's work, yes. But it's not hard.
Count how many times your dishwasher cycles using hot water. And as it does, go outside and look at your meter. You might mistake it for a helicopter as it spins so fast.
Is that worth it when with one fill of sink water you can wash all your dishes. Gee. People are so lazy.

I kinda like washing dishes as the hot water feels good on my arthritic hands. And I like to listen to music and sing to the Lord. I especially like doing dishes with someone. We get talking and before you know it, the dishes are done. And it gets the internet out of the way.

The way I wash dishes, I don't do any more work than someone who uses a dishwasher, and I save all the money that is used both in water and excess electricity.
Dishwasher users:
1 Pay for dishwasher
2. Pay for any maintenance on dishwasher
3. Pay for electricity used by dishwasher
4. Pay for extra water used by dishwasher
Work (not including work one must do to to achieve 1-4):
Load dishes, detergent, push button.
Unload dishes
Me:
Hot water + salt and sometimes lemon (if I feel like it)
Load dishes into hot water/salt solution
Wait for an hour or so and do something else. My "dishwasher" is running now without any electricity.
Transfer to dish rack with occasional wiping of dish where it needs it. Soaking does most of the work.
Transfer to cabinet/cupboard.
