How would you define what a Christian is in the simplest terms?

Here on CH we use the Nicene Creed as our statement of faith.

A Christian is someone who believes/has faith in Christ. Provided the Christ they have faith in is the Christ of historic Christianity and not some sort of "Christ" that they have created for themselves (such as Mormonism, Jehovah's Witness and a few other groups).

The Nicene Creed, Apostles Creed, and Chalcedonian Creeds are all good measures of the historic Christian view of "Who we believe in". And I believe the substance of the Creeds is taught in the Bible.

I was taught that it means "Christ-Like" and I think that fits fine into the message.

How do you define "Christ-Like" then...so that I don't assume what you mean by it?

To take on the character of Christ. We're instructed to emulate Christ and have His heart and His mind. Does that make sense?

I can't say that I honestly feel very Christ like, but I was/am a pretty damaged soul due to the corruption on earth. So Sanctification takes time, as we all know. Mankind are slow learners, lol!

But, in the 16ish years since I returned to the Lord seriously, I can see changes within me that witness that I am changing over time. I automatically react differently to certain situations and that became very obvious to me. I've been in the exact situations that when younger I reacted very differently to, and now I reacted differently now and the difference was of a more Christ like reaction than it ever was before in my youth. Man speaks from his heart for that is who he is. but even so if it was more Christlike, that's good I suppose but can I now identify as Christlike? A "Christian"? (by the Lord's Standards?!) No way. I am only an unperfected man as yet, just a man who has good days and bad days. But there is improvement in me and that witnesses my progress. Good thing Salvation is not performance based! But the attitude of the heart and it's intentions and effort leading to progress...So don't give up, endure until the end.

But I carry a wallet full of promises and I believe every one of them.

Earth is an exercise in Delayed Gratification. So I will be patient.
