This is exciting that the covid numbers have dropped drastically. I'm a numbers and data person in that I love looking and seeing data and trends. I haven't heard the news proclaiming too much though about how the covid cases have dropped in such a short period of time! In about 45 of the US states, the numbers have dropped. With the other approx 5 states the numbers have flat lined.

Isn't this really great news?

Good news for everyone except the would-be diktators.

Well they are going up steeply now restrictions are all gone. Many people I know are just so sick.
I had covid and it was awful but I was so glad I am fully vaccinated as I am certain it saved me from hospital. I was in bed a week and still feel unwell weeks later.
It is a bad bad virus.

Wow! Are you in the US? I still track the numbers every week and I'm not seeing serious increases. It mostly ebbs and flows.

It's not actually a "bad bad virus". Even before vaccines were available the CDC reckoned that for people under 50 in good health had a 99.98% survival rate. I wouldn't call that a particular threat, except to those who are older or otherwise vulnerable.

I had covid before vaccines existed and it was like a really bad cold for a couple of weeks. It laid me out exhausted but the first day I felt well enough to go out I went for a long walk and ended up doing nearly 10 miles.

The NY area is having slight increases. It looks like the early days, when Covid came in via places with heavy contact with China (West Coast) or Europe (East Coast). In this case it seems mostly the East Coast. My assumption is we're seeing the impact of BA.2. So far it's no where near the initial Omicron.

Will it spread to the rest of the country? You'd assume so. Will it get as bad as the UK? Who knows?

MSM is declaring BA.5 the worst variant, but looking back at what happened with BA.2, I don't see the trend leaning that route. Most of the people who have been getting sick are both vaccinated and non, and it's on the same level as either the flu or a bad cold, depending on your body type. Heavier people seem to be getting it worse I think? Younger people don't get it as bad.

I'm not sure why vaccines are even being pushed at this point. I think the scientists need to go back and actually make a true vaccine to prevent covid and not just a therapeutic.

I SUSPECT it's a drop in REPORTED cases....

Since the vast majority of tests are now done at home, the only way for the government to know who has COVID is for that person to voluntarily report that to some government office, and I'm pretty sure none do. I didn't. My case would never have shown up in the data.

I home tested and did not report.

As far as numbers go, hospitalizations and ICU admissions are low in my area with many being unvaccinated.

Also, I think COVID will be with us a long time and be like the flu with different variants each year. We will learn to co-exist with it as we do the flue.
