This thought came to me when I read about Gabby Petito's murder and her fiance being the suspect...well, he's still labeled a person of interest right now, so I guess I have to state that.

Anyway, if you knew your child committed a horrific crime, could you turn him/her in to the authorities?

That would be super rough but as parents you have to put yourself in Gabby’s parents shoes and think what would I want them to do if it my child that was killed.

Yes, it could end very badly if the cops have to chase him. I would hate it but in the end it is what needs to be done

It's really hard to say. One massive trouble these days is that when "trial by social media" takes hold the facts are ignored because everybody has an opinion on what someone should have done, even though none of the people with the opinions were there at the time.

What about if your child confessed to you. What would you do?

That's a hard one to answer - the sort of thing that I don't think anyone can truly know what they would do until they were in the situation.

Edit: I think the best course of action there would be to encourage the child to turn themselves in.

Looking at this whole thing with Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie, there are already posts circulating on social media stating outright that he is guilty of her murder. The reality is that we don't know. It could be he killed her after an argument and is desperately trying to cover his tracks. Out in the middle of nowhere it could be someone else killed her but he knows that once the police were involved in a "domestic dispute" between them he will be the prime suspect and there's little point trying to explain that someone else did it. As a "person of interest" one might expect him to want to clear his name but once you get into "anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law" it may not even be as simple as that.

That is a hard to answer question, but in a situation like this, I thinkI would.
