President Donald Trump's personal attorney Michael Cohen has indicated to family and friends he is willing to cooperate with federal investigators to alleviate the pressure on himself and his family, according to a source familiar with the matter.

Cohen has expressed anger with the treatment he has gotten from the President, who has minimized his relationship with Cohen, and comments from the President's lawyer Rudy Giuliani, the source said. The treatment has left him feeling isolated and more open to cooperating, the source said.

Could this be the beginning of the end for Trump?

We shall see what we shall see. Trump has a pretty good track record as a survivor, though, so we'll see if this has any effect at all on his administration.

Cohen must be in a lot of trouble to cooperate

Hard to know. It's said that most people commit multiple federal offenses in the average week and if the government really wants you they'll find something you've done that violates some obscure federal law. Maybe they're just turning up the heat in ways that shouldn't be legal in the hope he will cooperate and have something they can use.

I read a while back about a proposal to introduce a concept that I think is called mens rea that requires a prosecutor to prove criminal intent as opposed to just criminal conduct, simply because there are so many laws on the books that it's easy to picture someone committing a crime without even knowing it (that in itself is worrying). So, for example, if someone is caught robbing a bank there's clear criminal intent because the obvious intention is to steal, while someone operating a boat without a license because they didn't know you needed a license isn't so clear cut.

I would think that being a lawyer he would have a better sense of just how bad things were going for him. It also says in the article that he feels like Trump has alienated him by distancing himself from Cohen

Perhaps, although he could also be more aware than most how a prosecutor determined to apply pressure until something cracks is likely to get their way sooner or later. If there is truly pressure on his family, other than in the context of his family being concerned about him, it suggests the prosecutor is just throwing mud until something sticks.

So far the story is a "I hear that ..." kind of story. It may be true and it may not be true. Time will tell, as it so often does, if his intention is to testify against Donald Trump or not.
