In stores, I prefer sticking to December, but play it through Epiphany, which is the 12th day of the 12 days of Christmas. The world and many Christians don't follow that. I see Christmas trees at the curb by New Years Day or sooner. Should be left up to Epiphany.
In stores and shopping malls I'd prefer never as an option. I hate canned Christmas music. I guess enough people like Christmas music that they keep shopping but I've been to enough places that have the same very few songs played on an endless loop that I just won't tolerate it. Assault my ears with tediusly repetitive canned music and I just won't shop in your store.
In the house we have one Christmas album that I'm happy for my wife to play any time of year (it's an instrumental album). Other Christmas music waits until after Thanksgiving.
