Good evening to all of the Christianity Haven Community,
Christianity Haven is rapidly approaching its fifth year of being open. Many changes have come and gone, new forums have been added and old forums removed, we've had some ups and downs. But we've gotten through them all. The change that I am about to announce will be our latest change yet.
This weekend, Christianity Haven will be undergoing a change of forum software, in which once the conversion is complete, vBulletin will no longer be the forum software the community runs on. vBulletin offers a quick and simple set up out the box and while it remains a favorite software of mine, the version we are running on has reached its end of life status and as such requires an upgrade. Rather than moving forward with the next version of vBulletin, I've made the decision to rather bring Christianity Haven onto a new and updated platform.
Effective this weekend, Christianity Haven will be running on XenForo. XenForo is a software that was founded by former vBulletin developers, and has rapidly become one of the most used forum softwares found on the web, with many vBulletin forums finding XenForo as their next choice when it comes to the task of changing forum software.
What does this mean for the community?
In order to prepare for the conversion, all addons will need to be disabled to ensure for a smooth conversion with no issues at all. Styles will be removed, and little by little addons will be removed. Once the conversion is complete, the site will remain offline so that the Administration can make the necessary changes to bring the community back online including permission corrections, conversion cleanup, as well as addressing any errors.
What happens after that?
The forum will be brought back online, and it is to be expected that it may take some time for everyone to learn how things work. If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to ask! We will add a few themes that will help with the design factor.
Tapatalk
For our Tapatalk users, we will be installing the XenForo version of the plugin to continue the usage of Tapatalk. Please do not be alarmed if you do not see it right away, our first priority is ensuring the conversion has gone smoothly and is fully functional before reintroducing Tapatalk.
What will not be brought over?
All of our custom modifications, a few of them found on the Staff side of things, will not be moved over. The Arcade, Social Groups, as well as the Shop and Activity modules will not be brought over. Over on XenForo, more of the desired modifications do cost money and as of now, based on the current utilization of the features we've previously introduced, there is little to no need to introduce anything new that has no desire from the community. Should you have an interest in having something added that may require funding, please message an Administrator or post in the Member/Admin Center.
Questions?
Again, we want everyone to feel on board and feel excited for this new change! This new change of scenery will allow Christianity Haven a smoother browsing experience for all of our members, and we want everyone to ask questions if they need help.
The conversion is scheduled to start this Saturday Morning February 1, 2020. Should any plans change, we will announce them.
Thank you and we will see you on XenForo!
