Jews read Maccabees every Hanukkah because it's such an awesome history book, Jesus liked this history book so much so that he celebrated the apparent God given miracle in it.. He even relates himself to the "light" when the Jews approached him during this celebration.
Excellent history book!!
So what important CHRISTIAN truth is contained in the books of 1 Maccabees or 2 Maccabees that are found in none of the other 66 books of the Protestant Bible?

I was taught, as a new Christian, that the purpose of every book in the New Testament was to teach us who Christ is and how Christ wants us to live, and the purpose of every book in the Old Testament is to point forward to the coming of Christ. Since Maccabees is not a New Testament book (having been written long before the birth of Christ), then it can only be an Old Testament book (at best). So how does Maccabees point forward to Christ and is the lesson found in Maccabees not found anywhere else?

This is not a challenge, but an invitation for you to enlighten me.
