It reminds me of the gun situation...ban the guns because people are using them to kill. Ban the necktie because men are tying them too tightly

Yep... if you don't like guns don't buy one. If you don't like neckties don't wear one. It's not difficult.

Okay, I'm the dissenter. I. Hate. Neckties. Can't stand them, can't tie one properly, think they should all burn.

BUT, in some sectors, I can't imagine it would be advisable or appropriate. My dad worked for GM for close to 40 years. The corporate culture dictated formal business attire. I can't imagine him having gone to work in anything but a suit and tie. It was part of his role as a business professional. Perhaps they've relaxed that a bit, I don't know, but I can't imagine GM corporate culture veering too far from it.

Looking at the city's Wikipedia page, it looks like Lancaster is home to industrial parks, major businesses, and Chinese developments - i.e. corporate culture. Maybe he's just jealous of Mark Zuckerberg...

My husband used to wear a necktie every day when he worked for the government!! He would leave them tied and hang them up that way loosely so he can slip them over his neck! I never learned how to tie one but tried a few times. I'm not sure why I couldn't learn it. I'm good with knots!

I remember keeping a necktie in my desk drawer. Day to day there was no need to wear one. Day to day there was no need to wear formal clothes at all - I used to look a bit odd in formal pants, a formal shirt, no tie and sneakers. I had a pair of dress shoes in my desk drawer as well. Most days they never saw the light of day but every once in a while I needed to be in an area where external clients were likely to be around, and if that happened I'd change my sneakers for dress shoes, put the necktie on, and look like I was dressed for business. It was rare for me to actually interact with an external client in that job but they expected staff to look professional when in such areas.

When I was at my desk nobody really cared. I could have sat there in shorts and a T-shirt, but it's a bit of a hassle to put on formal pants and a formal shirt before heading out. Changing shoes and putting on a necktie can be done at my desk.
