The Boy Scouts of America announced after 114 years that it will change its name and will become Scouting America in an effort to emphasize inclusion as it works to move past the turmoil of bankruptcy and a flood of sexual abuse claims.

The rebrand is another seismic shift for an organization steeped in tradition that did not allow gay youths or girls to begin joining its ranks until relatively recently. Seeking to boost flagging membership numbers, the Irving, Texas-based organization announced the name change Tuesday at its annual meeting in Florida.

“In the next 100 years we want any youth in America to feel very, very welcome to come into our programs,” Roger Krone, who took over last fall as president and chief executive officer, told The Associated Press in an interview before the announcement.

The change will officially take effect on Feb. 8, 2025, timed to the organization's 115th birthday.

I don't agree with this change. If girls want to do the same things that the boys are doing in Boy Scouts, then someone should make Girl Scouts more about those things or have a separate group altogether that supports both while keeping the boys in Boy Scouts and the girls in Girl Scouts.

Do you agree with the change? (Why/Why Not)

The Girl Scouts have become just as liberal as the boy scouts. They should probably just merge at this point.

I was an active BOY Scout as a kid.... and for years financially supported them.

While the organization is still often GREAT (depends a lot on the troop, Scout Master and supporters) - my son is a Cubbie - the BSA has sadly become pretty liberal and has moved away from being for BOYS.

Now, many don't know that the senior most part of the BSA has always been open to girls, but only the high school part and every case known to me of such girls is that they are the sisters of BOYS already actively involved. But this is the high school part.

The Girl Scouts, started as a girl's form of BOY Scouts of America, to offer GIRLS the same girls-learning-about girl stuff - never has been nearly as successful or popular as the BSA. And never developed a reputation of the Eagle Scout designation (with the prestige associated with that). So, there has always been a desire for girls to join the BSA (again, usually sisters). I get it. And this is mostly a result of the failure of Girl Scouts.

I'm NOT a sexist.... and I'm not in favor of sex discrimination... and I DO think boys and girls learning to interact well is an important part of growing up... but from my own experience with the BSA, it is important for boys to interact with other boys, to learn something of what it seems to be male, to do GUY stuff with GUYS. It's hard for me to convey this in words, but I both enjoyed and benefited from this part of my childhood. And my son loves it. Mixing it completely with girls just changes the whole milieu. There are already LOTS of organizations like that - school, church, Boys and Girls Club, etc., etc., etc., etc. Transforming the BSA into just another of those is fundamentally changing what it is - and just duplicating a LOT of other organizations. And of course, just serves to likely eliminate Girl Scouts - another loss.

Ah, don't worry. With 30 years or so (perhaps even less) of corporate "woke-ish" type films, the youth will be educated to treat gender as they treat race - "we're all the same". Today's stigma against "racism" will extend to gender and perhaps be included in it, or given a separate title like "genderism" or something similar.

All it takes is youth brainwashing and constant media attack, esp through entertainment. You'll be considered "non progressive" and a ton of negative stereotypes will be applied to you, especially if those same qualities existed in other organizations (ie: "Nazi"). And the social butterflies and cowards will all bow.

That being said: If I had a son, I'd absolutely discourage him from joining the "Boy Scouts" or the newly renamed "Scouting America (or your country here)" if it promoted themes that basically neuter both boys and girls.

I got no problem with girls hanging out with boys as friends, but sometimes the different genders want "separate times". I don't think that's evil or wrong.
