Being Well Clothed In The Spirit Is What Covers Our Shame, Part 2

For many, sins can tarnish their self-image, leading them to feel too much shame in attempting to serve God. The Lord spoke of this in the Book of Revelation, where some of the believers in Sardis were falling back into behaviors that were "defiling their garments." In other words, their lives and testimonies were becoming stained by sin, but it did not have to stay this way, for if they overcame them they would again walk with the Lord clothed in white.

4 You have a few names even in Sardis who have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with Me in white, for they are worthy. 5 He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life (Revelation 3:4-5)

I see testimonies where this comes to mind all the time, especially from young men seeking to serve the Lord Jesus Christ. They want to walk free of the stains of sin, yet they struggle to get the victory over them. As I covered in Part 1, the answer is not to seek a righteousness in and of ourselves, but to become increasingly "clothed" in the Spirit of God, for it is only though Him that holiness is attained. What many lose sight of is that we cannot create a "holiness" of our own. It comes only from the presence of the Holy Spirit resting upon us and operating through us. This is why Jesus told the church at Laodicea to "buy" of Him white garments, that the shame of their nakedness not appear.

18 I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich, and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed (Revelation 3:18)

How is the Spirit of God "purchased" as it were? Through prayer and fasting. How can we know if we have received it? The spiritual gifts, i.e, the supernatural gifts in particular, are and were intended to confirm beyond doubt that He was in our midst. Even the outpouring itself, which for some is tangible, is intended to confirm that He is present and has accepted us. This is why Jude exhorted his readers to "keep yourselves in the love of God, praying in the Holy Spirit." All manifestations of the Spirit's supernatural presence operating in and through believers cause them to become "clothed" in Him, and it is this clothing of the Spirit that causes the shame of their spiritual nakedness to no longer appear.

Did anyone remember the apostle Peter denying the Lord three times after the Day of Pentecost came? No, because the Spirit was poured out upon him and he stood up to prophesy to all Israel that the fulfillment of Joel had come, and that salvation was now to be found in Jesus Christ alone, the Son of God. Peter would go on to raise the dead, again manifesting that the Spirit of God rested upon him in great power, and confirming yet again that despite his sins the Lord Jesus Christ had forgiven him and clothed him in His Spirit.

But what of new believers just starting out? First of all, believers should pray for the baptism in the Holy Spirit, for the proper beginning is to start out wearing white garments from the very beginning, as Revelations 3:4 above suggests. But should this experience tarry, there are some easy ways to become increasingly "clothed" in the Spirit, ones not so dramatic as being empowered to raise the dead or heal the sick, but ways which provide evidences - even if only to us as of yet - that the Spirit of God is present within us.

Firstly, the Spirit was sent to lead us into all truth (John 16:13), and Paul described revelation as a type of "gift" that is given to the saints when they seek Him for it, such as happens when the prophets are seeking revelation from God on specific matters.

29 Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge. 30 But if anything is revealed to another who sits by, let the first keep silent. 31 For you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be encouraged. (1 Corinthians 14:29-31)

This applies to receiving accurate interpretation of God's written word as well, for the Spirit is the One who wrote the scriptures and He alone is the One who knows their accurate meaning. The Lord likewise grants us wisdom supernatural when we ask Him for it - wisdom regarding any situation we might be facing and how to deal with it - and He does not just give this wisdom to the "righteous" but to all, for scripture states that He will not bring a reproach against us for our sins when we ask Him:

5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, without doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord (James 1:5-7)

Just as with revelation concerning the written word or concerning prophecy, those who refuse to let go of God until they receive wisdom will receive it, and when they do they will know that the Spirit of God is revealing things to them supernaturally. These should be among the primary manifestations of God's presence initially, yet there are others as well. The Lord promised that in the end times He will pour out His Spirit upon all flesh, and we will prophesy, see visions and dream dreams. Anyone can receive a dream from God, which is why I regularly stress it to others as a means by which the Lord can speak to them, and operate in and through them supernaturally.

Some will say, "But I don't know how to interpret," but as Joseph once told the Pharaoh's servants, "Do not dreams belong to God? Tell me your dreams and I will interpret them." Simply ask Him in prayer for what He alone can give, and pray in faith that you will receive it. When you receive it you will know, and you will know you are being spoken to and taught by the Spirit of God Himself. The reason again why this is so important is because once you see the supernatural happening in your life and/ or on your behalf, nothing the accuser of the brethren can say will dissuade you from your confidence in God. Yes you may have sinned in the past and messed up - maybe even yesterday - but the simple fact that He is manifesting on your behalf means no one else's opinion need matter, not even yours. Trust in His love for you, and that you will increasingly be clothed with the Spirit of God from on high, forever covering you from those who would be your accusers.

Blessings in Christ, and thank you for reading

✝️Clothed in White: A Gospel Summary on Shame, Holiness, and the Spirit

🔍 1. The Problem: Sin, Shame, and the Stained Garment

Many believers—especially new ones—struggle with shame. Past sins, failures, or comparisons to “holier” Christians can lead to a sense of unworthiness. Revelation 3:4–5 speaks of believers in Sardis who had “defiled their garments,” symbolizing lives stained by sin. But the promise remains:

“They shall walk with Me in white, for they are worthy… He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments.”
Key Insight:
Shame does not disqualify you. The Lord offers restoration through spiritual clothing—His righteousness, not ours.

🕊️ 2. The Solution: Holiness Through the Spirit, Not Self
We cannot manufacture holiness. True righteousness comes only by being clothed in the Spirit of God. Jesus told the Laodiceans to “buy” white garments from Him (Revelation 3:18)—a call to seek the Spirit’s covering through prayer, fasting, and surrender.

“Buy from Me… white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed.”

🔥 3. The Evidence: Supernatural Gifts as Confirmation
How do we know we are clothed in the Spirit? Through the manifestation of spiritual gifts—prophecy, revelation, wisdom, dreams, and more. These are not for the elite; they are for all who seek Him.
  • Jude 1:20“Praying in the Holy Spirit…”
  • 1 Corinthians 14:29–31 – All may prophesy and receive revelation.
  • James 1:5–7 – Wisdom is given liberally to all who ask in faith.
  • Acts 2:17“I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh… your sons and daughters shall prophesy…”
Example:
Peter, once ashamed and broken after denying Christ, was transformed by the Spirit at Pentecost. He prophesied boldly, healed the sick, and even raised the dead—evidence that he was clothed anew in the Spirit.

🌱 4. For New Believers: Starting in White
New believers should seek the baptism of the Holy Spirit early. But even before dramatic manifestations, there are gentle signs of His presence:
Evidence of the SpiritDescription
RevelationInsight into Scripture or divine truth
WisdomSupernatural guidance in decisions
Dreams & VisionsPersonal messages from God
Prophetic EncouragementWords that build up others in faith

“Do not dreams belong to God? Tell me your dreams…” —Genesis 40:8

🛡️ 5. The Result: Confidence in God’s Covering

When the Spirit manifests in your life, shame loses its grip. The accuser’s voice is silenced. Even your own self-condemnation is overruled by the evidence of God’s presence.
Final Word:
You may have stumbled. You may feel unworthy. But if the Spirit of God is resting on you, you are clothed in white. Keep seeking Him. Keep praying. Keep walking. The white garment is not earned—it’s received.

Just Jesus:
Steps to commit everything to Jesus:
1. Follow Him fully – “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Matthew 4:19).
2. Deny yourself – “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily” (Luke 9:23).
3. Love Him above all – “He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me” (Matthew 10:37).
4. Obey His commands – “If you love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15).
5. Offer your life as worship – “Offer your bodies as a living sacrifice… this is your true and proper worship” (Romans 12:1).
6. Serve with humility – “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve” (Mark 10:45).
7. Trust Him completely – “Trust in the Lord with all your heart… submit to Him” (Proverbs 3:5–6).
8. Stand firm in faith – “Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord” (1 Corinthians 15:58).
9. Live as He lived – “Whoever claims to live in Him must live as Jesus did” (1 John 2:6).
10. Persevere through trials – “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful” (Hebrews 10:23).

🌟 Breaking it down into a practical path
Step 1: Begin with surrender. Recognize Jesus as Lord and consciously choose to follow Him. This is the foundation of commitment.
Step 2: Daily self-denial. Commitment isn’t one-time; it’s a daily choice to put His will above ours.
Step 3: Prioritize Him over relationships, possessions, and ambitions. This doesn’t mean neglecting family, but ensuring Christ is first.
Step 4: Obedience as proof of love. True commitment is shown in action, not just words.
Step 5: Worship through lifestyle. Every decision, every act of service, becomes an offering to Him.
Step 6: Serve others as He served. Commitment to Jesus is expressed in humility and sacrificial love.
Step 7: Trust His guidance. Even when paths are unclear, leaning on Him ensures direction.
Step 8: Stay steadfast. Commitment means not being swayed by distractions or discouragement.
Step 9: Reflect His example. Study His life and let it shape your own.
Step 10: Endure trials with hope. Commitment is tested in hardship; perseverance proves faith genuine.

✨ The heart of it
To commit everything to Jesus means surrender, obedience, love, trust, and perseverance. It’s not about perfection but about daily alignment with His will, letting His Spirit transform every part of life. Just continually call the name: Jesus; in every given situation!

Just Jesus-A Commitment
Let’s expand each of the 10 steps to commit everything to Jesus. It is a discipleship builder—each step is a “focused commitment ” in the reinforcement of faith, much like the way you call upon the Name of the Lord while in deep intercession.

1. Follow Him Fully (Matthew 4:19)
To follow Jesus fully means leaving behind partial allegiance
. The disciples dropped their nets, careers, and familiar routines to walk with Him. This wasn’t symbolic—it was a radical reorientation of life.
Following Him requires trust in His leadership even when the path is unclear. Like a team trusting its coach’s vision, discipleship means surrendering strategy to the One who sees the whole field.
It also means continual movement. Following is not static; it’s a daily walk, a journey of growth. We don’t just “accept” Jesus once—we keep, with determination, persistently focused, following step by step. Grab hold deeper and deeper every time,
Following Him fully means resisting distractions. Just as athletes must tune out noise to focus on the game, believers must fix their eyes on Christ, not the shifting winds of culture. In that given situation, ignore naysayers and negative influences, and ensure everyone of the Lord's sovereignty and His Perfect Plan!

2. Deny Yourself (Luke 9:23)
Self-denial is the heart of discipleship.
It’s not about rejecting your identity but surrendering selfish ambition. Jesus calls us to lay down pride, ego, and the illusion of control.
This daily act is like training discipline—choosing sacrifice over comfort. Athletes deny themselves indulgence to pursue victory; disciples deny themselves to pursue eternal life.
Carrying your cross. The cross isn’t jewelry or metaphor—it’s the symbol of death to self. To deny yourself is to embrace suffering for Christ’s sake, knowing resurrection follows.
True self-denial frees us. When we stop clinging to our own plans, we discover the carefree joy of living in God’s will.

3. Love Him Above All (Matthew 10:37)
Jesus demands first place in our affections.
This isn’t cruelty—it’s clarity. Only when He is supreme can other loves be rightly ordered.
Loving Him above all. Recognizing that family, career, and possessions are gifts, not gods. They cannot bear the weight of ultimate devotion.
This step challenges cultural norms. In societies where loyalty to tribe or tradition is paramount, Jesus insists on loyalty to Him first. It’s radical, but essential to accomplishing His Will and it’s very liberating.
When Christ is loved above all, other loves deepen. Parents, spouses, and friends are cherished more fully because they are loved in Christ.

4. Obey His Commands (John 14:15)
Obedience is the proof of love.
Words alone are insufficient; love is demonstrated in action.
Jesus’ commands are not burdensome—they are life-giving. They protect us from destruction and guide us into flourishing.
Obedience requires humility. We must admit that His wisdom surpasses ours. Like players trusting a playbook, disciples trust His Word.
Perseverance is required. Obedience is not occasional but consistently followed, with compassion, and determination, even when inconvenient. This is how love matures and grows exponentially in our lives.

5. Offer Your Life as Worship (Romans 12:1)
Worship is the offering of your whole life.
It is not confined to songs or services. Every breath, every heartbeat in determined whole-hearted focused worship of the Lord God Almighty!
Present your bodies as living sacrifices. This means every decision, every action, becomes an act of devotion. Throw it down (everything) upon the Altar of the Lord! Let it be your greatest gift, your greatest sacrifice!
Such worship is holistic and life-giving. Work, rest, relationships, and recreation all become arenas of worship when surrendered to Christ.
Transform your ordinary life to anointed living. Washing dishes, coaching a team, or writing assignments can all be worship when done unto Him.

6. Serve with Humility (Mark 10:45)
Model servant leadership of the Master.
Though He was Lord, He washed feet and bore burdens.
Serving with humility means rejecting status-seeking. It’s not about recognition but about meeting needs.
Humility in service is extremely powerful and fulfilling. It disarms pride, builds community, and reflects Christ’s heart.
When we serve humbly, we embody the gospel. The world sees Jesus not in our words but in our actions.

7. Trust Him Completely (Proverbs 3:5–6)
Trust is the foundation of commitment.
To trust Jesus is to lean not on our own understanding.
Real trust is tested in uncertainty. When paths are unclear, faith anchors us.
Trusting Him completely means surrendering control. It’s like handing the play-calling to the perfect coach.
Such trust brings peace. Anxiety fades when we rest in His sovereignty.

8. Stand Firm in Faith (1 Corinthians 15:58)
Faith must be steadfast.
Commitment means not being swayed by trials or temptations.
Standing firm requires resilience. Like athletes enduring grueling seasons, disciples endure spiritual battles.
We help build each other's faith. It requires community. We stand firm together, encouraging one another.
Firm faith produces fruit. When rooted deeply, storms cannot uproot us.

9. Live as He Lived (1 John 2:6)
Discipleship is imitation. To live as Jesus lived is to embody His character.
This means compassion
for the marginalized, courage in truth, and intimacy with the Father.
Living as He lived requires focus on Jesus. We must know His life to reflect it.
Depend wholly on the Spirit of the Living God. Only by His power can we walk as Christ walked.

10. Persevere Through Trials (Hebrews 10:23)
Trials test commitment.
Perseverance proves faith genuine.
Hope sustains perseverance. We hold unswervingly to the promises of God.
Perseverance is communal. Encouragement from others strengthens endurance.
Ultimately, Perseverance glorifies Christ. When we endure, the world sees His faithfulness in us.
