I call that constant search for pleasure hedonism, which follows Satan's "fun-god." It is rampant in our world. How can we overcome it for ourselves? God's Word commands us in 1 Corinthians 10:31, "So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." In other words, we must overcome the purpose our selfish pleasure-seeking without any thought of God with God-honoring activities.
God convicted me of my false, hedonistic sportsaholism (I just made up a word, I guess) with the above verse. Then, as I watched baseball and basketball on TV, I began to praise God for his creative power in giving athletes such amazing skills, as I do to this day; and God lifted that idolatry from my brain and actions. For other sports like wrestling and boxing, I could find no way to glorify God by watching them. As a result, I stopped watching them. Sports became a hobby instead of an obsession.
