How common were backyard treehouses while growing up in the 80s and 90s?

Did you have one?

In the 70s we used to climb trees! We wanted a treehouse at our friend's house, but the dad couldn't climb to help build it, so we just climbed up and stayed in the trees to relax.

They weren't much of a thing when I was a child. Only last night I watched a friend's kids so they could have an evening off, and those kids have an impressive tree house. It's built around a pretty big tree, and is big enough that I can stand upright in it.
