I use a mixture of cash and card. The reason I still use cash is to help keep the cash economy alive, and because in certain businesses it's the only payment accepted.
I get this feeling from some of the younger generation that complete digital currencies (esp bank and government issued) are thought of as "progressive" or just in step with digital everything.
One of the nice things about cash, be it paper, actual coin, silver, gold or other commodities, is that it's not auto tracked and doesn't betray your privacy. It's your servant in goods and services exchange instead of your master. Like Tango said, you can use it (sort of) without giving a piece to government or banks. I say 'sort of' because the present fiat system debases cash and has since the introduction of central banks. That doesn't make digital the answer. Centrally issued digital can just as easily be debased. However at least with cash their is some level of autonomy and privacy.
The Bank of International Settlements wants to change that. They want control over how you use your own money. With total control over your money, ultimately they and their institutions have total control over you. Not "progressive", unless the progression is towards financial slavery.
Centralised Control confirmed by Bank of International Settlements.
