Are you an audiophile?

For the last six months or so, I've found myself becoming interested in vinyl again. I've sort of been doing it backward though - buying vinyl without a proper record player. I'll get to it, I promise. I got interested again as I read about some of my favorite bands and their love of their record collections, and the artists that influenced them. I also belong to a couple of fan pages on Facebook where posters extoll the virtues of vinyl. Once I have a decent turntable and headphones I suspect I'll be full blown again. I was a vinyl afficionado when I was a teenager - every weekend was a trip to "Sam's Jams" near Detroit, a veritable warehouse of new/old/rare/vintage records. And I loved it. I'm getting that itch again.

Anyone else an audiophile? If you are, what turntable do you use that would be good as an 'entry point'?

Not really an audiophile these days, although I used to be a lot more interested in that sort of thing.

Where turntables are concerned you can spend insane amounts of money if you want to. You've got the turntable, the arm, the needle, any and all of those can cost as much as you want to spend.

I guess the first question you'd need to ask is just how far down this rabbit hole you want to explore. If you've got deep pockets and really want the best then enjoy the journey, but you also have to ask the question of how you want to balance your spending between the turntable and whatever else comprises your stereo. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link and it would be a shame to spend a lot of money on an awesome turntable and then let it down with a cheap amp.

I have 2 vinyl albums packed away. I haven't had a record player in probably 40 years LOL I have a friend from high school who is really big into vinyl and especially the Beatles albums!
