Archaeologists find oldest known Jerusalem settlement

Jerusalem (AFP) - Israeli authorities announced Wednesday they had uncovered findings proving for the first time the existence of an established human settlement in Jerusalem as far back as 7,000 years ago.

A dig in the annexed east Jerusalem neighbourhood Shuafat revealed two homes with parts of walls and floors intact, as well as "pottery vessels, flint tools, and a basalt bowl" characteristic of the Chalcolithic era, the Israel Antiquities Authority said.

That would be Canaanite, I would think.

I can see that adding to the conflict over the land because it is proves that the Edomites had first ownership of the land. We know that Joshua conquered the land from all of the "ites" that were there, but this find is not going to ease the situation.

I love biblical archaeology! I used to subscribe to a magazine that had good articles on biblical archaeology but it wasn't a Christian magazine which I found odd.

Thanks for posting this!

No, but we do know who gace the Israelites all the land and that claim is still valid today

That is beside the point brother. We all know who the land was given to. But, the conflict (shall I say in the spirit realm) is about whose god/God is the most powerful. The Palestinians know who the land was promised to. But they take every opportunity to claim that Israel is occupying Palestinian land. This find places Canaanites there first, and Esau had Canaanite wives. So, imho, this find strengthens Palestinian protest because they have history and archaeology now to back up their claim.

Yes it will. But I can see how now, with this find, there can be an uptick in the violence against Israel.
