People who have taken anti-depressants, how did they positively/negatively impact your life?

I haven't taken them myself but from what I hear from people who have I think the only reason I'd take them was if the alternative was literal death. Of the people I know who have used them (which isn't a huge sample admittedly) the recurring theme is that it's almost impossible to come off them.

Even things out and the depressive times did not become disabling. Am thinking I need return to them.
