What do you think the significance of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil is in the story of Adam and Eve’s sin?
The main significance, I would ask, is 1.) why did God put it there in the first place?
2.) Satan did voice a a truth, though he is a liar, "For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil." (Gen. 3:5) Liars and deceivers use 'truth' to deceive. (Gen. 3:22) "And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us to know good and evil:"
3.) But the knowledge of good and evil was obtained by man through disobedience to God.
4.) Simple obedience to God was all that was required. Don't eat of it. No reasons given as to why, other then they will die, which they proably didn't understand what it meant. Just don't do it. The only reason to not eat of it, was God's command.
5.) One simple law to man, showed not just the inadequacy of man in obeying God, but the inadequacy of law to bring man into a right relationship with God.
6.) The Tree of knowledge of good and evil revealed God can never obtain what He wants for man through law and commandments.
My opinion
