What do you think the significance of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil is in the story of Adam and Eve’s sin?

What do you think the significance of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil is in the story of Adam and Eve’s sin?

The main significance, I would ask, is 1.) why did God put it there in the first place?

2.) Satan did voice a a truth, though he is a liar, "For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil." (Gen. 3:5) Liars and deceivers use 'truth' to deceive. (Gen. 3:22) "And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us to know good and evil:"

3.) But the knowledge of good and evil was obtained by man through disobedience to God.

4.) Simple obedience to God was all that was required. Don't eat of it. No reasons given as to why, other then they will die, which they proably didn't understand what it meant. Just don't do it. The only reason to not eat of it, was God's command.

5.) One simple law to man, showed not just the inadequacy of man in obeying God, but the inadequacy of law to bring man into a right relationship with God.

6.) The Tree of knowledge of good and evil revealed God can never obtain what He wants for man through law and commandments.

My opinion

When God completed creation, He surveyed everything and pronounced it not just
good, but very good. So that tree, though unfit for human consumption, had a
legitimate place in the Earth's environmental scheme of things just as all other toxic
plants and animals do now. In other words: had that tree been excluded, creation
would've been incomplete.

Anyway:

There was a time when I sincerely believed the chemistry of that tree's fruit was
responsible for the first humans' remarkable psychological transformation from
innocence to shame. But when Eve tasted it, nothing happened. She went right on
in the buff as usual. It wasn't till Adam tasted the fruit that Eve began thinking
about putting on something to cover her pelvic area.

It's commonly believed among a number of Christians that the so-called fallen
nature is inherited from one's father. But whence did Eve get it? She was already
fully constructed, and fully functional prior to Adam tasting the fruit so it was
too late for him to pass the fallen nature on to her by means of reproduction.

I've always considered it to be an issue of free will. The choice to obey is meaningless in the absence of the option to disobey. So when there's a single rule - the regime is basically "do whatever you want but don't eat from that one tree" the option to disobey is introduced.

So now obedience is easy - just avoid eating from that one tree. But sooner or later they exercised their free will to disobey, ate the forbidden fruit, and we know the rest.

When Eve ate, she fell. She didn't go on as usual. Unless God is a liar. (Gen. 2:17) (Gen. 3:3) (Gen. 3:16)

When Adam ate he, and the human race fell. (1 Cor. 15:22) ( Rom. 5:12) According to you, Eve never should have died.

So, according to you, why did Eve die...or did she?

I've no doubt Eve would've survived had not Adam tasted the fruit.

* I'm guessing Adam concluded all was lost when Eve ate the fruit so he
went ahead and ate it too thinking "oh, what the hey" the meanwhile failing
to appreciate that he alone would be responsible for the deaths of his entire
biological posterity, which of course included his wife seeing as how she was
constructed with material taken from his body.

FAQ: Why wasn't Eve's life forfeited when she ate the fruit?

REPLY: Apparently it was God's decision that if sin and death were to enter
the human family it would enter via the work of one man working alone, just
as it was His decision that righteous and life be offered the human family via
the work of one man working alone. (Rom 5:12-21)

FAQ: I have to die because of Adam? How is that fair?

REPLY: I have no clue; but here's how it works:

According to Rom 5:12 the entire human race partook of the forbidden fruit
in real time right along with Adam just as if we were all there with him. So
then, the so-called original sin isn't something we inherit, rather, it's
something we merit. i.e. we all brought it on ourselves as joint principals in
Adam's disobedience.

You think Eve would have survived if Adam had not eaten the fruit? Tell me then, what does this verse mean? (1 Tim. 2:14) "And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression."

You say 'you have no doubt'. Then you say 'I am guessing'. Then you say 'apparently'. Then you say, 'I have no clue'. Or, in other words, you don't know what you're talkiing about. To which I agree.

No, according to (Rom. 5:12) the human race became guilty due to Adam's sin. Adam brought it upon the human race.

As it is said several times in Bible, people should be innocent as children to enter kingdom of Heaven. Adam and Eve were just that, innocent because they were not ashamed to walk naked next to each other. Once they tasted the fruit of knowledge they became like God (not God) and saw everything. The knowledge is the root of evil.

There was no way to reverse situation and go back to innocence .

2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”

4 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

Here we see two important parts. They won't die of physical death, but they will lose childlike soul.
Snake spoke half truth. We will become like God in terms of knowledge but we will die.
