I've been a believer since 1983. I spent the first few years of my Christian faith reading the Bible daily and spent a lot of time studying the Word. I had a hunger for God's word even as a teenager. I can remember taking my bible to school as a high schooler so I could read during free time. As a result of this, I think God helped me to understand his ways and his heart and this kept me out of a lot of trouble in college. I say this to say that I think it is important to spend time in God's Word daily and in prayer. The victory that we have is complete in Christ. But, in my flesh I am incapable of walking with him. My flesh simply doesn't always want to obey him. By walking with Him daily, it leads to an absolute dependence on Him.
I had situations that occurred in college where the devil was clearly attacking me and I held fast. I am not saying this to brag. My victory came through Christ and staying close to Him. My life would have taken a very different turn if I had not been close to him. Who knows where I would be or what I would have gone through, but I can guarantee it would have been more painful. God's word is truly a light in a dark place.
I know also that there was a time when reading and studying God's word felt like it was simply going through a sieve. LIke nothing was taking hold. I felt frustrated with myself at times because the closer I came to God the more the light of the word brought areas of my life to attention that I needed to deal with. Though when I needed a word to give to a friend or to witness for him because of that study and reading I was ready.
I say this to say that I would encourage anyone who reads this to get into God's Word daily. My life is a testimony that God can use anyone. I have no special abilities or skills, but God has used me quite a bit. He has not because I am better than anyone else, but because of the power of God.
