Good to know we have been moving backwards in usability refrigerator technology!

This is a 1956 Frigidaire Refrigerator commercial featuring Bess Myerson, the winner of Miss America in 1945.

They sure don't make them like this anymore.

Our fridge is pretty old too. My wife remembers it from her childhood. We keep getting offers with the electricity bill that we could get some token rebate for trading it in for a new energy-efficient fridge. The trouble is that any new fridge will be designed to break six months after the warranty expires, and the fridge we have now is from an age when things were built to last.

You know, nothing says "environmentally responsible" like making things designed to end up in landfill within five years.
