I've been an Amazon Prime member for years and have never paid much attention to membership perks beyond free shipping and access to TV shows and movies. It turns out there are other, lesser-known perks associated with an Amazon Prime membership that I've never taken advantage of. If you're busy like me and don't take time to keep up with membership perks, you may be as surprised as I was by these easy ways to save money.

The problem with those perks is that they aren't as appealing as they once were. Amazon likes to change things for the worst for their customers. Take the music streaming for instance. It used to be I could play a song on demand when I wanted to hear it. Now, there are only select songs that have that capability. I used to be able to form a playlist and have it play in the order I wanted. Now I can't even do that. Amazon now chooses which music I hear according to the style of music I've played in the past.

Also, the free kindle library, I couldn't access it last time I tried so I'm not sure it's even in existence anymore? What Amazon does is send out an email with 6 select books I can choose from for free once every few months (I think it was supposed to be monthly but I don't get it monthly).

I canned Prime years ago because it didn't feel like good value for money.

Free delivery is great, until you realise how much you're actually paying for it.

I found Prime TV to be of very limited value. The number of times I'd activate my Fire Stick to watch something of an evening only to find the things I wanted to watch weren't actually included and required further payment (either to rent or buy from Amazon, or only available on another service). Needless to say Amazon couldn't have marked them from the main screen, I guess they hoped you'd click them and simply put up the cash rather than grunting in annoyance and hitting the Back button. Most of what was available to watch was either available on Netflix, or not worth the subscription cost.

Prime Music is great in theory but I'm not really interested in streaming music. I'd rather have it on a local device so I'm not chewing through mobile data, or using up bandwidth at home. Now I've got a much faster connection but don't want to deal with advertising mixed in with my music. If I wanted that I'd just turn on the radio.

Kindle Unlimited is great in theory but in practise never really offered books I was interested in reading. I prefer physical books anyway, there's something about physically turning pages that you just don't get with a tablet. I used a Kindle for years, mostly when I travelled a lot, but the main benefits of not having to carry physical books kinda fade when you can stack as many as you want on the coffee table.

Now so much of Amazon's main site is third-party vendors with unpronounceable names that insist you won't regret buying from them, all in badly broken English. "We at HGHEUFK are devoted to you satisfy, if you have problem just out reach HGHEUFK and we make everything good. You'll be glad bought HGHEUFK".
