This is the result of a question that came to mind in the thread 'Resurrection Purpose' that I didn't want to bring up there. as it is really a discussion all it's own.
Jesus explained to Nicodemus the necessity of the new birth for entrance into the Kingdom of God. (John 3:1-8) Nicodemus did not understand. (3:9) Christ rebuked his ignorance on the subject as Nicodemus was apparently a learned man and teacher in Israel. (3:10) In other words, the new birth had to have been a promise to Israel in the Old Testament.
Now, for all intents and purposes, the 'new birth' up to this time, during the Church Age, has benefited only Christians. No one in the Old Testament was ever born again. And our new birth is accomplished through the power of the Resurrection of Christ, (1 Peter 1:3), whereby the Holy Spirit combined that Body of Christ with His Deity as the Son, raising Him from the dead, and forever making Him The God Man. Thus giving the Son life in Himself. (John 5:26)
And when one is now born again, they are brought into the Body of Christ. The Church. The Bride of Jesus Christ. But one day, the Church will be raptured from the earth, complete. But to Israel the new birth was promised. (Ezekiel 36:23-28) And Israel is the wife of Jehovah. (Is. 54:5) (Ezekiel 16:32-34)
