    Hello from Virginia!

Whisky and whiskey go well with coffee, not quite so well with tea - tea and brandy work okay.

Why do Christians think God talks with them?

It says "... verily verily I say unto you, never speak in tongues in polite company for it is a social faux pas and you shall be embarrassed if you do it. ..."

If you wanted to live in another country which one would it be?

I still say Canada. It's free, friendly, comfortable, and you get good medical cover without having to pay a fortune to get it. :smirk:

    Voting your moral values.

Two bad candidates from two parties but what about the Greens, independents, Libertarians, and whoever else ran? Surely at least one was better from a "moral values" point of view.

    Voting your moral values.

No, it is not between two alternatives. An election is between as many candidates as the ballot paper holds. In nearly every presidential and congressional election that is more than two. IN the last Presidential election is was more than four.

Why do Christians think God talks with them?

When people say "God told me to do such and such" they usually mean "I want to do such and such an I have a feeling that it is okay with God for me to do it, in fact I reckon God is leading me to do it". A man divorced and remarried several times, alleged to have made unwelcome and improper sexual advances to numerous women, who concealed his tax status both prior...

    Gift of Tongues

It is interesting to see the wide variety of beliefs about "speaking in tongues" within Pentecostal and Charismatic groups. What is your view? Is "speaking in tongues" meant for all?

    Gift of Tongues

There are a number of groups and some small denominations that teach that "speaking in tongues" is the only reliable sign of conversion to Christ so those groups teach that "speaking in tongues" is necessary.

    Moral questions and legan fiat

Catholics do have separate terms. One is civil marriage and the other is sacramental marriage. The Catholic Church still refuses to marry a divorced person if their previous marriage was valid and their partner from that marriage is still alive.

    Moral questions and legan fiat

I can't help but think that either you want the state to define marriage or you want your denomination to define it for everybody. Either way it is contrary to Catholic teaching for the state to define doctrine for the church or for the church to define law for the state. It's nice when state...
